Running Back · Arizona Cardinals
Jeremiyah Love
No. 4 · Rookie
A week in, the ankle's already rewriting the plan.
Jeremiyah Love looked like he could walk it off. During the preseason game against the Raiders, the rookie running back rolled his ankle, and his head coach Mike LaFleur said at the time he could have gone back in. A soft landing -- the kind of thing that stings for a moment and then clears.
Then the imaging came back. What looked minor had depth to it. A high ankle sprain isn't a twist; it's a ligament tear that takes time. Love won't play the rest of the preseason. He's expected to miss at least a week, though "at least" is the careful word doctors use when they mean "possibly longer."
For a rookie fighting to prove he belongs, preseason snaps matter. They're the stage where he'd show the team he's more than draft capital -- that he can move the way they need him to, that he's trustworthy in real moments. Now he's watching from the sideline while other backs get those carries, building their case instead of his.
