Wide Receiver · Indianapolis Colts
Alec Pierce
No. 14 · 5th season
Alec Pierce signed the big deal. Now he's waiting to find out when he can play.
The ink wasn't dry on the contract before the calendar got complicated.
Alec Pierce is a wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts who just signed a four-year, $114 million extension — the kind of number that announces a team has decided this is their person for the foreseeable future.
The complication: Pierce had surgery on his left ankle this offseason, and the recovery is taking long enough that he may miss a substantial part of training camp.
For Pierce, the money is real and the commitment is real — but right now the only thing on the schedule is rehab. A player coming off a big extension missing camp is exactly the kind of start nobody wanted. It does not change the deal. It does change what the next few months look like.
The Colts bet large on what Pierce can become. He just has to get healthy enough to start showing it.
