Campbell came back with something new to show
He didn't just show up to camp. He came back with notes.
Will Campbell is New England's starting left tackle — the person whose job, every single play, is to keep the quarterback upright on the blind side. It's one of the most unforgiving positions on the field, and Campbell is still early in what figures to be a long career with the Patriots.
This offseason, rather than coast, Campbell sought out some of the best tackles in the game and paid attention. What he learned, he's carrying into training camp — healthy, and apparently hungry.
That combination — no injury cloud, a clear head, and new material to work with — is exactly the kind of starting point a young player at a critical position needs. The Patriots' offense runs through whoever lines up at that spot, and Campbell seems to know it.
The offseason is over. Now we find out what he actually picked up.
