Chris Brazzell's rookie year is over before it really started

He made it to the NFL. That part was supposed to be the beginning.

Chris Brazzell came into Carolina as a rookie wide receiver — the kind of player still writing the first pages of a career, still trying to show the team what they have. Preseason camp is where you build a case for yourself. Wednesday's practice was supposed to be another day of that.

It wasn't. Brazzell injured his knee during practice, and the Carolina Panthers confirmed he'll need season-ending surgery for a torn ligament in his knee. His 2025 season is done.

For a veteran, this is devastating. For a rookie, it is something else entirely — a whole year of development, of proving yourself, of just being in the building and learning what the NFL actually is, gone before the regular season begins. He won't get those reps back.

What happens from here is the question his whole story turns on now. Rookie seasons matter more than most. He'll have to build his case in a different way.
