Training camp in Berea opened with a lot of familiar faces — and one notable absence. Maliek Collins, the Cleveland Browns' starting defensive tackle, did not take the field. A knee injury he has been dealing with since earlier this year put him on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he watches while everyone else works.

Collins was brought in to be a cornerstone of that defensive front. When a starter misses the first days of camp, it is more than a scheduling inconvenience — the people around him are figuring out an offense without their center piece, and Collins is somewhere else trying to get his body right.
