Dion Dawkins

No. 73 · 10th season

Eight years in one building, and Dawkins is done playing it safe

Dion Dawkins did not say the Buffalo Bills need to compete harder this year. He said kill or be killed.

Dawkins has lined up at left tackle for the Bills since 2017. Every snap of his NFL career has been under the same head coach, the same building, the same north star. He has watched Josh Allen go from a raw young quarterback to a two-time MVP runner-up to an actual MVP, and he has been on Allen's blind side for most of it.

So when Dawkins reaches for that kind of language to describe where the Bills stand heading into 2026, it lands differently than a preseason sound bite. This is not a player trying to get a quote picked up. This is someone who has built something over eight years and knows exactly how close it still feels, and how quickly that feeling can go.

Left tackles protect the people everyone else is watching. They do it without much of the credit and all of the consequence if something goes wrong. Dawkins has done that job for eight seasons, and now he is saying out loud what that kind of investment eventually forces you to say: the window is not decorative. You either go through it or it closes.

That is not a rallying cry. It is a reckoning.
