Tight End

Zach Ertz

No. 86 ยท 14th season

Ertz doesn't want a torn ACL to write the last line

There is a version of how this ends that Zach Ertz has already decided to refuse.

Ertz has spent years as one of the more reliable tight ends in the league โ€” the kind of player whose name got called in moments that mattered. Then last season a torn ACL took the choice out of his hands, and now he is a free agent with something to prove before anyone will give him a roster spot.

In April, he said it plainly: he does not want this injury to be the last thing he did in the NFL. To get back on a field in 2026, he knows he has to show up healthy first. No team will take the leap on faith alone.

That is the work right now. Not games, not targets โ€” just the long, unglamorous process of convincing his body, and then convincing a front office, that there is still something left.

The ACL gets to decide a lot of things. Whether it writes the ending is still an open question.
