Quarterback
Jimmy Garoppolo
No. 11 · 13th season
He thought about walking away. He's not ready to yet.
This spring, Jimmy Garoppolo sat with the idea of retirement and let it breathe for a while. That alone says something about where he's been.
Garoppolo spent years as one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league without ever quite getting the full run he seemed built for. The injuries, the contracts, the near-misses — his career has been a long exercise in almost. He has also been a starter, a mentor, and a veteran who teams have gone looking for in a pinch.
He didn't retire. According to NFL Media's Mike Garafolo, Garoppolo is open to playing again — just in the right situation. Nothing is lined up, but he's available, and he's experienced enough that a team in need of a quarterback later this season could come calling.
What that 'right situation' actually looks like only he knows. But the fact that he considered stopping — and then chose not to — means somewhere out there, there's still something worth playing for.
The next chapter hasn't started. It's just still possible.

From The Insiders: Jimmy Garoppolo considered retirement this spring but is very much open to playing this season in the right situation. Nothing imminent but he’s an experienced, veteran QB available for a team that might need one in the near future. https://t.co/Q60E9tFCXD
