Hopkins says he's not rushing anyone — including himself
There is a version of this story where a former All-Pro wide receiver just quietly fades out of the league, unsigned, until the conversation moves on. DeAndre Hopkins is not writing that version.
Hopkins built his name as one of the most reliable receivers of his generation — a player who made difficult catches look inevitable and who showed up on the field in a way that made teams build around him. He has been All-Pro. He has had moments that get replayed for years. Whatever brought him here, to free agency, with no team signed, he is not treating it as the end.
His message right now is simple: there is football left in him, and he will not sign somewhere just to sign somewhere. He is waiting for the right fit, on his terms.
That kind of patience takes belief. It also takes risk — every week of the regular season that passes is a week of opportunity gone. For Hopkins, though, the alternative seems worse than the wait.
Somewhere, a team has a problem at receiver. The question is whether they pick up the phone before Hopkins stops answering.
