Hunter added 10 pounds and somehow feels faster

The offseason is mostly invisible work. Nobody hands out credit for the thing that happens before the thing. But occasionally the result is strange enough to be worth naming.

Travis Hunter came into the NFL as a player who does something almost nobody does anymore: lines up at wide receiver one snap, then at cornerback the next, and takes both seriously. The Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to the second pick in the 2025 draft to get him, which is the kind of number that comes with very specific expectations.

This past offseason, Hunter added 10 pounds. His first thought was the obvious one — that extra weight and quick feet usually don't travel together. But when he got out there, it felt like the opposite of what he feared. Lighter. More fluid.

For a player whose entire value is built on the ability to move — to flip between offense and defense, to cover and to get open — that news matters more than it sounds. The body is the tool. If the tool got better, the whole thing gets better.

Now the question is what that looks like when the games start.
