Tetairoa McMillan

No. 4 · 2nd season

McMillan said he never committed. Then he walked that back.

Not the greatest way to open training camp.

Tetairoa McMillan, the Panthers' wide receiver, stepped to the microphone for his first press conference of camp and was immediately asked about missing a youth training event. His answer: he never committed to it in the first place. Clean and simple — except it wasn't.

Sometime after that, McMillan walked the claim back.

It's a small thing, maybe. A scheduling mix-up, a miscommunication, the kind of stuff that happens when a young player's calendar fills up fast. But the first impression of training camp season tends to stick, and McMillan's opened with a correction.

What he does with the rest of the summer will matter a lot more. Right now, though, the story he's telling about himself has a rough first paragraph.
