Center · New Orleans Saints
Erik McCoy
No. 78 · 8th season
More time hurt than healthy, and he'd do it all the same
Erik McCoy plays the position that nobody notices until something goes wrong. The center is the one who snaps the ball, calls the blocking assignments, holds the whole front together. You don't get highlights for it. You get to keep going, or you don't.
Over the last two seasons, McCoy has spent more time watching than playing. Injuries have pulled him out of game after game for the New Orleans Saints, the kind of run that makes a player quietly recalculate, that makes a coaching staff hold its breath.
But McCoy says it differently. He calls it the luck of the draw. And he isn't planning to change a thing about how he plays.
That is either the most stubborn thing you've heard all week, or the most honest. Maybe both. For a player in his position, there's no careful version of the job — you go into every snap trying to win, or the guy next to you pays for it.
The Saints are watching to see if the luck turns.
