Malik Nabers

No. 1 · 3rd season

Nabers not on the PUP list, and the Giants are exhaling

A torn ACL can quiet a building fast. When your best offensive player goes down, the question stops being about this season and starts being about the next one — and the one after that.

Malik Nabers is the person the New York Giants offense runs through. When they imagine what their attack can look like at its best, they are imagining him.

So when training camp opened and Nabers was not placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list — which would have sidelined him from all team activities from the jump — it was the kind of small detail that carries real weight. It means Nabers, still working through the rehab on his right knee, is at least in the building and moving. The Giants have three other players on that list. He is not one of them.

New York is genuinely hopeful Nabers can be on the field for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. That is a big ask for a knee that went through what his did. But the first sign was good, and right now, good signs are what they are collecting.

The road back from a torn ACL is long and uneven. What happens between now and that first game is everything.

RT @JordanRaanan: Malik Nabers(knee) is not on the PUP list to start training camp. That's a good sign.
