Guard
Ethan Pocic
No. 55 · 10th season
Ninety-seven starts, one torn Achilles, and now a shot across the division
A torn Achilles ends a lot of careers. For some players it just ends a season — and then they show up on the other side of the rivalry.
Ethan Pocic spent nine years building something real in the NFL. Ninety-seven starts at center. The kind of number that takes a long time to get to, and a long time to lose. Last year, the injury happened. The counting stopped.
Now Pocic has signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens — the team's answer to losing their starting center Tyler Linderbaum, who left for the Las Vegas Raiders. Pocic is healthy, and the Ravens are putting him in the competition for that starting spot.
What makes this particular: Pocic is coming from Cleveland. The Browns and the Ravens share a division and a long, tense history. The line between those two locker rooms matters to the people in them. Walking into Baltimore not as a visitor but as a teammate is a different kind of transition.
He has done this before — started, produced, kept his job. The Achilles is behind him, at least in terms of clearance. Whether a starting spot in Baltimore is ahead of him is the question this season answers.
