Alec Pierce

No. 14 · 5th season

Pierce is heading in the right direction, and that's enough for now

There's a version of training camp where you're not on the field at all — where the team is getting its work in and you're watching, ankle healing, waiting. That's where Alec Pierce has been since camp opened.

Pierce had ankle surgery in the offseason and landed on the physically-unable-to-perform list, which means he's been sidelined while his teammates ramp up. It's the kind of absence that can quietly cost a receiver real ground in a position room.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Pierce is heading in the right direction. Not "cleared," not "ready" — just the right direction. For a player working his way back from surgery, that's still something worth noting.

The question isn't whether Pierce can play. It's whether he gets back on the field in time to matter before the season takes shape without him.
