Robertson-Harris starts Giants camp on the sideline before it begins

Before the pads went on or a single rep was run, Roy Robertson-Harris was already watching from a different place.

Robertson-Harris — a defensive lineman on the New York Giants' roster — was placed on the physically unable to perform list when training camp opened, meaning he cannot practice with the team until he is cleared medically. Two other Giants joined him there. Being on this list at camp's start doesn't end a season, but it does mean a player begins the summer behind.

For a roster spot that was never guaranteed, time matters. Every day of practice is a chance to build chemistry, earn trust, and show the coaches something. Robertson-Harris won't have those days yet.

The one piece of good news floating around the facility: wide receiver Malik Nabers, one of the team's most watched players, came through camp's opening without landing on the same list. That's the kind of update that gets a different kind of headline. Robertson-Harris's update is quieter — and harder.
