Rolder left practice early, but the Lions caught a break
Rookie seasons are fragile things. One wrong step in a Friday practice and suddenly everything you've been building is on hold — or worse.
Jimmy Rolder came into the Detroit Lions organization as a linebacker out of Michigan, the kind of prospect who arrives with real expectations already attached. He hadn't had long to prove himself at this level.
When Rolder left practice Friday to be checked out for a leg injury, the worry was immediate. Those moments tend to spiral fast in a fan's imagination. But the news that came back was about as good as it gets in that situation: no severe injury. He'll miss some time, but not the kind of time that derails a season before it starts.
For a young player still trying to establish himself on an NFL roster, every healthy week matters. Missing a stretch is a setback. Missing the rest of the year would have been something else entirely. The Lions dodged that, and so did Rolder.
Now it's just about getting back. The clock is still running in his favor.

Some additional good news for the #Lions as sources say promising rookie LB Jimmy Rolder “didn’t suffer a severe injury” — he will “miss some time,” but not major. Rolder, the former Michigan star, left practice Friday to be evaluated for a leg injury. https://t.co/TJbhfTBA5W
