Seven years in Cleveland, and now the Browns are looking for someone else

Some departures come with a press release and a thank-you tour. David Njoku's exit from Cleveland is quieter than that — and maybe that says something.

Njoku spent seven seasons with the Browns, longer than most players stay anywhere in this league. He came in as a first-round pick with a reputation for freakish athleticism, outlasted head coaches and quarterbacks and front offices, and eventually became one of the few constants on a team that cycled through almost everything else. That kind of tenure earns a player something — recognition, at minimum.

Now he's gone, and the Browns are working out how to fill a hole at tight end without him.

For Cleveland, the search for a replacement is a roster problem. For Njoku, it's a clean break — he's landed with the Los Angeles Chargers, a new city, a new system, a fresh start. Whether that turns out to be exactly what he needed is the question worth watching.
