Skattebo has been working back from surgery on his right ankle, the kind of thing that follows a running back everywhere until it doesn't. So when he showed up at Fanatics Fest on Saturday — a fan event, cameras everywhere — he apparently decided the most convincing argument was a backflip.

The backflip did not go cleanly. He landed awkwardly, right on the ankle in question, and the moment spread fast. Skattebo said afterward that he's fine.

That may well be true. But for a player trying to put injury questions to rest, landing crooked on a surgically repaired ankle in front of a crowd is not exactly the image the New York Giants would have drawn up. The ankle is the story now whether he wanted it to be or not.

He's fine, he says. The offseason is long. And somewhere there is a Giants trainer who had a very interesting Saturday.
