Jonathan Taylor

No. 28 · 7th season

Taylor stayed, and the first round was on him

Most contract extensions get announced in a press release. Jonathan Taylor told the fans himself, at practice, and then offered to buy them a beer.

Taylor has been the heart of the Indianapolis Colts' offense for years — a running back who carries the ball and, apparently, the room. When the deal was done, he didn't wait for a podium. He walked out to the people who show up in the heat to watch the team work and said it out loud, owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon standing right beside him.

The extension keeps him in Indianapolis for two more years. The free beer was not in the contract. He offered that on his own.

Running backs don't always get to choose where they land. Taylor got to stay, and he made sure the people in the stands knew it meant something to him. That's a different kind of announcement.
