Running Back · Indianapolis Colts
Jonathan Taylor
No. 28 · 7th season
The Colts want to give Jonathan Taylor a break. His legs won't let them look away.
There are only two running backs in the entire NFL who have carried the ball more than 300 times in each of the last two seasons. Jonathan Taylor is one of them. That number sounds like a compliment. It is also a clock.
Taylor is the kind of player a team builds around — the one you hand the ball to when nothing else is working, the one the crowd leans forward for. That trust is real. So is the wear that comes with it.
Now the Indianapolis Colts say they want to ease his workload. The intention is good. But good intentions and a close game in the fourth quarter are two different things, and Taylor has a way of making the decision for you before you've finished making it.
The question the Colts are sitting with isn't really about carries. It's about how long you can protect someone by relying on them.
