The shoulder news isn't good, but Reid says Delane's doing fine

The Kansas City Chiefs gave up a lot to get here. A first-round pick, a third, a fifth — all traded away for the chance to take Mansoor Delane sixth overall. That is a bet that comes with expectations, and expectations do not pause for injuries.

Delane is a cornerback the Chiefs clearly believe in. The price they paid to draft him says more than any press release could. So when a shoulder injury pulled him out of the team's offseason practice sessions before the season even begins, it was the kind of news that makes a front office hold its breath.

Andy Reid is not holding his breath. The Chiefs' head coach said Delane is doing well in his recovery, which is the kind of update that doesn't erase the concern so much as make it manageable.
