The undrafted guy is getting first-team reps while two big contracts watch
The Atlanta Falcons gave Kirk Cousins a major free-agent deal last year, then used a first-round pick on Michael Penix. Two quarterbacks, a lot of money, a lot of expectations. And then there is Jack Strand.
Strand came into the league without being drafted — no team called his name, no guaranteed roster spot, no fanfare. That is the quietest way to arrive in the NFL.
Sometime this offseason, Strand started taking snaps with the first-team offense. Not the backups. Not the scout team. The ones ahead of him on paper are a veteran with a big contract and a rookie who cost a first-round pick.
There is no cleaner way to say it: nobody was supposed to notice Jack Strand yet. Somebody noticed.
