There are players who leave a league quietly, and there are players who let you know they are still here. Von Miller is the second kind.

Miller built his name as one of the most disruptive pass rushers of his generation — a former defensive player of the year, a Super Bowl MVP, someone opposing offensive lines spent weeks preparing for. At 37, he is a free agent, and by most accounts no longer the force he was at his peak. That does not seem to be slowing his thinking.

Miller has made it known he has interest in the Las Vegas Raiders — a team that has had a front-row seat to what he can do for most of his career. Whatever version of Von Miller they would be getting, they know the name that comes with him.

The question is whether a team rebuilding its identity wants to bet on the player he still might be, or whether 37 and a decorated past is a combination that stays on the shelf. Miller is clearly not ready to find out the quiet way.
