Malik Nabers
No. 1 · 3rd season
Nabers is trending the right way, and the Cowboys are first on the list
Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys. Week 1. If you were writing the season opener for a young wide receiver looking to announce himself, you would not change a word.
Malik Nabers plays wide receiver for the New York Giants — he catches passes, runs routes, and is one of the players a quarterback looks for when the play matters. Heading into this season, the question was not whether Nabers belongs on that stage. The question was whether he would be healthy enough to get there.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen said this week that Nabers is trending in the right direction and that the team expects him ready for Week 1. The opener is a Sunday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys — as visible a stage as the regular season offers.
For a young player, that game is a chance to put a name in front of the whole country at once. The Cowboys and the lights and the prime-time slot do not care how old you are or how many games you have played. They just show up.
